Overview

Wilco from MWR really outdid himself with this filter!

Always on the hunt for more power and protection to keep the Factory Racing teams worldwide happy, MWR discovered that on most of the “big 1000cc bikes” the OE filter surface was simply too small, and that regardless of which filter you install, you always have a kind of restriction (a bottleneck, basically).

The MWR “R” filter has consistently offered the best power overall compared with all other aftermarket sports filters, but now with the cooperation of several top teams (Kawasaki (KHI), MV Agusta, and other WSBK and MotoGP teams (that due to contractual agreements must remain nameless) they have developed a new style of airfilter called simply WSBK that increases the filter surface enormously.

On the BMW S1000RR the Surface area is increased by 50%, on the GSXR 1000, 1199 & R1 the increase is 90-100% !!!

More / bigger surface area means less restriction and better protection, but the real secret of the new WSBK filters is that it uses two different kinds of foam materials. The part where the logo is printed is foam material used for our roadbikes (more dense), the rest is the foam material for the full racefilters (less dense), placed to create the same effect as the splitter-plate on the “HE” & “R” filters.

Tests up to now show average gains of a minimum 6.5HP over the MWR “R” filters.

Unfortunately no Dyno charts are available yet as teams do not allow us to share their data, so please share yours with us!

The WSBK filters are currently in use by the following top level teams and riders:

WSBK Champion Tom Sykes ( 2 years in a row now) and Jonny Rhea on the Kawasaki ZX10R, 2014 World Endurance SBK Championship winning team of Yamaha GMT 94, MV Agusta World Superbike team, Ryuichi Kiyonari (BSB), IOM TT Winner Micheal Dunlop on the BMW S1000RR, AMA Superbike team TPL Corse (Ducati), Double 899 Cup Champions (BSB) Carl Cox/P&H Motorcycles and Dani Rivas (CEV Superbikes, BMW), BMW Motorrad Italia with Sylvain Barrier, and several more that we can't legally name.

INSTALLATION:

The procedure for removal installation is outlined in the workshop manual for the bike, and you should consult it, below is a way it can be done, but as with any disclaimer, do it by the book not by my ramblings (this is my removal of liability, so proceed at your own risk).

Do all procedures to remove the fuel tank

Remove the Gasket around the air box opening gently

If you look at the Rear throttle body (as sitting on the bike), you will see a silver Clip /spring, just undo that on both cylinders (the one for the Front cylinder faces away from you), then disconnect fuel line feeding them at eh junction at the top (black fitting, has two square buttons on each side you press together then pull up), then leaving the Throttle body uppers connected electrically (you cant easily remove them any way, just set it out side of the Air box so its just hanging there,

Pop the side clips on the OE filter holder and remove the entire assembly.

The MWR jsut slides in (its tight) and the sides are springy so you gently push the sides in and slide it into the air box into position - I usually start at about a 45 degree angle the filter going in first and going forward to its position, the Sides trailing - the Arrow on the sides should be pointing up once installed, the sides go in front of the hard metal protrusions on the air box sides where the OE filter holder clips went, you might need to bend the Sides out a little to ensure it holds tight in place - its really important the filter seals to the Opening, so you don't want to bend them so much they shorten the distance and air can get past the filter... Gentle is the key.

Then reverse the rest, making sure you test the Throttle body uppers are locked into place correctly front and back (the pin in its place and the Locking clip all the way locked.
