Overview
The Tech-Air® 3 is a lightweight, fully autonomous active airbag system designed for touring riders, urban commuters, and light off-road adventure enthusiasts. This wearable system requires no external connections or sensors on the motorcycle, providing seamless, high-performance protection that activates automatically via a magnetic zip closure.
Engineered with advanced AI technology, the system utilizes a crash detection algorithm developed from over two million kilometers of riding data. It incorporates six integrated sensors—three accelerometers and three gyroscopes—to accurately monitor for impacts or dangerous situations like lowside or highside crashes, even when the motorcycle is stopped. Upon detection, the airbag deploys in milliseconds to provide full upper body protection, covering the rider's chest and back.
The system is built for versatility and can be worn both over and under motorcycle jackets, provided there is sufficient space for inflation. The outer chassis is available in premium materials, including supple cow leather with perforated panels for airflow or durable stretch nylon canvas with elasticated side panels for an optimized fit. Practical features include zippered hand pockets, chest pockets with a sunglasses channel, and a packable design for easy storage in a backpack or pannier when not in use.
Equipped with Alpinestars' Pro 2nd Generation Electronic Control Unit (ECU), the system features Bluetooth low energy (BLE 5.0) connectivity to the Tech-Air® App. This allows riders to monitor battery life, track rides via MyRide, and perform software updates. An integrated LED display and haptic vibration alerts confirm the system's operational status and notify the rider when the battery is low.
Technical Specifications and Maintenance:
- Battery: Integrated lithium-ion battery with 40-hour life and ~4-hour recharge time.
- Weather Resistance: ECU seal protection certified for performance between -20°C and +40°C.
- Protection: Full chest and back coverage; includes an integrated pocket for additional passive back protection.
- Maintenance: The gas inflator housing, electronic wiring, and airbag are removable. Canvass versions are washable once electronics are removed; leather versions should be cleaned with specialized leather cleaner.
- Service: Gas inflator canisters are replaceable by certified Tech-Air Service Centers.
