The device, when properly mounted on the motorcycle, is activated when the vehicle undergoes a sudden deceleration, by flashing the stop light with a frequency  of 4 Hz. The DBL is activated as soon as the rider brakes suddenly and continues to work for the next 4.5s even with less deceleration. The device will not operate at speeds under 40km\/h.
